How can I better understand property crime trends in California? Where are the best places to invest in distressed property in greater Los Angeles?

A great resource for property investment professionals is available at this link

This interactive map  shows crimes per 1,000 Los Angeles County residents. Crime Grade’s property crime (also known as non-violent crime) map shows areas where property crime per person is highest, weighted by the type and severity of the crime. The C grade means the rate of property crime is slightly higher than the average US county. Los Angeles County is in the 44th percentile for safety, meaning 56% of counties are safer and 44% of counties are more dangerous.

The rate of property crime in Los Angeles County is 20.91 per 1,000 residents during a standard year. People who live in Los Angeles County generally consider the north part of the county to be the safest for this type of crime.

Your chance of being a victim of property crime in Los Angeles County may be as high as 1 in 27 in the central neighborhoods, or as low as 1 in 70 in the north part of the county. See the section on interpreting the property crime map, however, comparing rates for property crime or any other crime is not as intuitive as it may seem.
