Louisville Metro Government employs multiple strategies to address vacant and abandoned properties (VAPs). Some of those strategies are designed to address the property’s condition alone, while others work to transition VAPs out of its abandoned state. Often, multiple strategies are implemented simultaneously.

Various departments, including Codes and Regulations and Office of Housing and Community Development, work in tandem to determine the most effective strategies to resolve problematic VAPs. The table below provides additional information about these strategies, as well as whether the specific strategy will result in an ownership change.
