Vacant properties are put to good use again when community-focused, organized, and informed rehabbers take on projects. The following resources are designed to demystify the process of rehabbing a home in St. Louis.  For help protecting your vacant properties, contact DAWGS.

St. Louis Opportunity Zone Map   

Opportunity Zones are low-income census tracts selected by each state’s governor and confirmed by the U.S. Department of Treasury. The goal is to improve economic outcomes of these communities by incentivizing investment.

Vacancy Collaborative Vacant Property Explorer

The Vacant Property Explorer is an online portal for viewing and exploring potentially vacant properties in the City of St. Louis. Data are collected from the publicly-available datasets of several City departments.

TIF Districts Map  Property taxes within a TIF District are frozen. The property owners then make Payments in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) to a special allocation fund.


Historic Districts Map 

Projects in Historic Districts may qualify for State or Federal Historic Preservation Tax Credits. More information on St. Louis Local Historic Districts can be found here.

Real Estate Tax Abatement
​Tax Abatement freezes the tax assessment in improvements to property at the pre-development level.  Taxes on properties developed in a recommended Tax Abatement Area can freeze for up to 10 years.


Citywide Zoning District Map 
Zoning Districts are designations for residential, commercial, and industrial land uses respectively. They regulate the location and use of an existing building or lot.

Land Tax Sale 

The tax sale is an auction of tax delinquent properties before the Land Reutilization Authority takes control of them.


LRA Property Search
The Land Reutilization Authority is the land bank of St. Louis. LRA manages publicly owned properties in the city.

Community Development Administration

CDA  provides federal funding to renovate dilapidated/abandoned properties or develop vacant land. They can provide information, direction, and technical assistance.

Affordable Housing Trust Fund 

The Affordable Housing Commission awards grant money from the Affordable Housing Trust Fund to non-profit organizations, faith-based agencies, and developers creating affordable housing and providing other related services.

Gateway Neighborhood Fund 

The Gateway Neighborhood Fund provides loans to qualified borrowers to purchase move-in ready homes or to renovate or refinance homes in communities with depressed home values.
